Antea Association , in collaboration with Antea Formad, that is Antea’s training school and formative branch, will continue the “Gabbiano Tea” educational project for its 5th consecutive year.
The experience matured in the last years and the success in the participation found amongst students, the teaching staff and the families, have lead Antea to extend the Project’s view from the educational level to a more ambitious target of cultural growth that aims to make young people altruist, that is socially useful , giving them the means needed to live globally their territory.
THE PROJECT’S AIMS ARE:
-To teach “helping relation” stimulating the education of the voluntary service
-Training in the values of life and solidarity
-To let High School students know the no profit field of work with a particular reference to the social and health development and spreading of Palliative Care
-To give young people good means of social information and of training for study and research methods
-To make the real needs of palliative care emerge from the research on one’s own area
-To involve the family and the school in the social and health issues
-To carry out projects that aim to overcome the emerging needs in the area
-To carry out a research that emphasizes the terminal patients’ realities of assistance
-To carry out an educational continuity to involve students who have finished the High School and who have taken part in the “Gabbiano Tea” project over the last years
THE ADDRESSEES
The project is addressed to the students of Public and Private Schools(both religious and secular) and to:
A- University students
B- High School students
C- Secondary School students
D- Primary School students
THE PROCEDURES
A- FOR UNIVESRITY STUDENTS
The young people who have taken part in the “Gabbiano Tea” project over the last years and who want to continue their collaboration. They will be adequately trained through a course aimed to present the “Gabbiano Tea” project and to support their younger colleagues
B-FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
TRAINING FOR TEACHERS AND RESEARCH STUDENTS
A common training is provided for all the students taking part in the project.
All the participant students will be registered in the Antea Association as Volunteers and they will get the School Credits according to Law.
The students who have attended the training course , will take part in the “Gabbiano Tea” project for the year 2004/2005 as “operators”.
Following the students’ inclination and the availability , two groups will be selected, that is those for “Tutors” and those of “Researchers”.
TUTOR: the young “trainers” that are inserted in the Educational project in a very thorough way, will train Primary School students
RESEARCHERS: they are those students that will do the “research” on a territorial level. It will be finalized to locate the number of terminal patients that live in the area of the School as well as the Associations and the procedures of assistance.
The training path, adapted to the students’ age and shared with the teachers, includes:
History and news about the Voluntary Service
General notions about health and illness with a particular interest in extreme situations
Knowledge of the area
Methods of research
Elaboration of research quizzes

Two afternoon meetings the duration of two hours each are programmed.
C-FOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS
Primary schools students will be the addressees of the training from Secondary Schools students who will have already attended Antea’s training, with a particular reference to:
Voluntary Service and society
Health and illness
Emerging needs
The solidarity individual
Explanation of quizzes
During the training, students from Secondary School can:
Collaborate to the Territorial Research
Carry out an Helping Project referring to cases of social and health need analyzed in the research
D- FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS
Two kinds of participation from the students in a class or in the whole school are planned:
1-the carrying out of a Project in the school that can be developed through:
-the composition and the representation of a theatrical text (and of its stage designing) or a musical text both concerning the theme of solidarity
-the reading or exposition of stories or fairy tales focused on the themes of solidarity
-the comparing research about the helping relation and solidarity over the different periods of time until nowadays
2- the carrying out of a project of solidarity that can involve both the school staff and the students’ families:
-in an autonomous way
-in partnership with an Association involved in the social and health field.
GENERAL NOTES
The research results, respecting privacy, will be about: age, gender, pathology, presence of people living together, particular moral and social problems, consequential needs, possibilities of assistance, excluding the economical status.
The “Gabbiano Tea” project will be taken forward during the academic year 2004/2005.
At the end of it (that is May 2005 included) a Scientific Convention will be organized in collaboration with Regione Lazio, Provincia, Comune di Roma and Ufficio Scolastico Regionale per il Lazio-CSA of Rome, together with the direct participation of teachers and students from the three branches . It will aim to present , analyze and discuss the data studied during the Project, as well as the social and health troubles, the needs found, the possible solutions of assistance intervention planned by the Schools that have participated.
Public Institutions representatives are included in the participation to the Convention.
Antea’s volunteers, Antea Formad teachers and trainers , University students and the Lecturers of Rome University “La Sapienza” and “Tor Vergata” collaborate with Antea Association for the spreading and the carrying out of the project.
The project is carried out with the support of the Comune di Roma, Provincia di Roma, Regione Lazio, and under the high patronage of the President of the Republic. |
