.Antea Hospice

In Italian the term hospice is used to indicate a residential health care facility: it is conceived as a place where people can feel like at home, in an enlarged family. The aim is to give the advanced patients the opportunity to live their last days of life with dignity, through an holistic approach.

The assistance at Antea Hospice, integrated by the home care, is managed by a Palliative Care Unit and it is provided for free.

Antea Hospice was created in 2000 after several years of researches, studies and comparisons with similar structures in other European countries. Moreover, in light of the experience made in providing home treatment to advanced  patients, Antea decided to operate on the basis of the following criteria:

  1. integration and exchange between residential and home assistance;
  2. non‑hierarchical distribution of work among the operators in the Palliative Care Unit;
  3. ongoing coaching and training for the staff involved;
  4. relying on the same staff for home care and hospice;
  5. integration with the National Health Service to ensure continuity in the assistance.

The Hospice has 10 bedrooms with private bathroom and balcony. Each room is for one occupant and equipped with a bed-chair to allow the patient’s relative to stay for the night; there are no visit timings and meals are guaranteed also for the accompanying relative.

Moreover, each room is equipped with telephone, air conditioning, TV, mini-bar. The patient is allowed to bring some little belongings from his/her own home. Common places such as a living room and a little kitchen are available for use to the patient’s relatives. The Hospice offers excellent health care services combined with a very warm and quiet ambience.
